PRO has announced its new range of Vibe Superlight road cabins, which have undergone a weight reduction exercise.
The handlebar is claimed to lose 75g from the previous incarnation, which was introduced in 2019.
The Shimano-owned brand says the new model sees not only an evolution in weight savings, but performance as well.
The brand has also announced a set of carbon clip-on aero handlebars, as well as a lightweight expander plug and computer mount to complete the range.
Availability is to be confirmed, as are Australian prices.
PRO Vibe Superlight Handlebar
With a claimed weight of 154g for the 38cm wide model, PRO says the Vibe Superlight is the lightest road bike handlebar has ever made.
The brand says the bar’s strength and reliability have also been improved despite the weight savings, thanks to the use of ‘Innegra’ fibers within the T1100 unidirectional carbon layup.
Innegra is a high modulus polypropylene fiber that is more impact resistant and is used by some bike brands, such as Allied Cycle Works and Orro, in their frames.
Carbon handlebars can often fracture in the stem and shifter clamping areas when over-tightened and PRO added that “it has been reinforcing the handlebars with compounds, like Innegra, in the PRO Vibe Carbon product lines. and PRO Vibe Aero since 2016. Carbon is already light and stiff; using Innegra in strategic locations adds reliability in the event of an incident.”
PRO also says that the oversized rounded tops provide “a comfortable, ergonomic hand position,” which should come in handy when climbing in a more relaxed position.
Mirroring the outgoing model, reach and drop dimensions measure 80mm and 130mm respectively.
Naturally, the handlebar is fully compatible with internal Shimano Di2 cable routing, while it’s available in three widths: 38, 40 and 42cm.
The PRO Vibe Superlight handlebar will retail for £379.99 / €419.95 / $449.99.
PRO Vibe Superlight Stem
Optimized for use in conjunction with the Vibe Superlight handlebar, the Vibe Superlight stem is made from 7075 alloy instead of carbon fiber.
We asked PRO why they chose this material and they replied that “aluminum offered us the widest range of possibilities in the design process, to meet our PRO testing standards and not have a rider weight limit”, considering it as “ the lightest and stiffest. Connection (in relation to weight) to the bar is possible, and also offers the option of internal (or semi-internal) cable routing”.
The shorter variant at 70mm in length is said to weigh just 92g.
PRO says the stem is light, stiff, and compatible with handlebars that have a 31.8mm clamping diameter. the stem allows for seamless internal cable routing when used with the Superlight handlebar and on compatible frames, depending on brand.
The stem is available in lengths from 70 to 120mm in 10mm increments and is angled at +/- 6 degrees. It is compatible with 1-1/8″ and 1-1/4″ steerer tubes.
The PRO Vibe Superlight Stem will retail for £159.99 / €159.95 / $174.99
Gap PRO Lid Expander Plug
The new weenie PRO Gap Cap Expander carbon weight expander cap weighs 24g, which is a saving of 16g over the previous lighter expander.
Like the Vibe Superlight stem, it’s compatible with 1-1/8″ and 1-1/4″ headsets and includes a carbon top cap.
The expander plug will set you back £29.99 / €34.95 / $34.99.
PRO Vibe Computer Stand
The PRO Vibe computer mount, constructed from 6061 alloy, completes the lightweight cab range.
PRO says the mount has been designed to fit both the new Superlight cockpit and existing Vibe carbon stems.
PRO adds that the computer stand features a hinge that offers +/- 20 degrees of adjustment. The mount also features two front and rear positions, 11mm apart.
The computer stand will cost £59.99 / €54.95 / $179.99.
PRO Compact Carbon Clip-On Aero Handlebar
In addition to the lightweight road cab kit, PRO claims its new Clip-On aero bars are designed specifically for ultra endurance cyclists and short distance triathletes, and weigh just 135g.
According to the brand, the position of the hand that the aerodynamic bar allows will bring an aerodynamic gain, while maintaining better comfort and control over the bike.
Clip-on aero bars also incorporate a computer mount.
The aero bars will retail for £149.99 / €159.95 / $179.99.
