Novitec launches 711hp Maserati MC20

This is not the first time that Novitec has worked on a Maserati, but it is perhaps the best base from which it has had to work. After all, the standard Maserati MC20 has taken everyone who’s driven it by storm, and even in its press release, the German tuning firm states: “The three-liter six-cylinder engine with two turbochargers provides an excellent starting point. starting point for a powerful set-up”. .’ So how powerful is the tuning you speak of and what else has Novitec done to make the Massa experience even better?

Well, another statement about this new car reads: “Novitec power unit engineers developed several performance enhancements for the MC20 that release dormant reserves in the engine.” Sleep? Really? Wow. The standard car puts out 630 hp and 538 pound-feet of force, so it’s hard to see how adjectives like “sleeping” are appropriate, and yet Novitec has certainly stirred something up inside the belly of the V6. It now has 711 hp at 7,400 rpm and 603 lb-ft of thrust between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm; updates could reasonably be described as: many. That is born in the performance figures. 0-62mph takes 2.8 seconds; 0-124 mph is over in 8.4 seconds. And it tops out at 202 mph.

How has Novitec punctured this sleeping bear? Well, part of this comes from Novitec’s motor control software. Its plug-and-play N-TRONIC control modules offer custom mapping for the MC20’s fuel injection, boost pressure control and ignition. This is said to make the car “considerably more dynamic”. There’s also what’s described as a “precisely tuned performance exhaust” with “sports mufflers that let the V6 breathe more freely.” Handsome. And unsurprisingly, this also adds a little more aural action, with “an even sportier exhaust note to boot” and optional active throttle valves to further open up the sound.

Some of the performance gains relate to lighter exhaust materials (there’s a choice of stainless steel or Inconel), but you can also choose more efficient 100-cell sport catalysts. It’s worth noting that exhaust system components are wrapped in high-temperature thermal insulation to minimize temperatures in the engine bay, and gold plating is also available. This is finished with a set of 100mm carbon and stainless steel tailpipes.

That brings us to the looks and the aerodynamic side. There are several bare carbon fiber additions that Novitec has developed in the wind tunnel to help perfect its aerodynamic benefits. The edge spoiler at the front reduces lift over the front axle, while the ducktail at the rear is said to provide downforce. The five-spoke NF 10 forged wheels were developed in conjunction with American manufacturer Vossen and add lightness and strength. Up front they’re shod in 255/35 ZR 20s and the rear wears 325/25 ZR 21 rubber. In addition to the revised rubber, Novitec sport springs have been added that lower the ride height by about 25mm.

Finally, when it comes to the interior, Novitec says it will work with customers to create “exclusive interior details in any desired color from the finest leather and Alcantara with consummate workmanship.” What it doesn’t mention is the price. But then if you have to ask…
