Assetto Corsa Competizione’s fabled 1.8 physics hit consoles 29th September  | Traxion

When the next Assetto Corsa Competizione update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S arrives on September 29, the console versions will have the same physics as the PC edition. The DLC will follow before the end of 2022.

After the release of the Sim Racing title Assetto Corsa Competition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, our reception was a bit subdued due to a lack of physical parity with the PC siblings.

Don’t get us wrong, it was still the most realistic driving experience on these devices, but we know it could be even better.

In November 2021the title received the now celebrated Update ‘Version 1.8’. This same update will now come to the current generation 29 consolethe September 2022, as announced by publisher 505 Games at the Tokyo Games Show.

physics review

A key refinement is a 400Hz refresh rate for the physics system, up from 300Hz. This allows the game to perform higher physics calculations. In our tests, there is a noticeable improvement in handling comments.

The tire model has also changed. More aggressive driving leads to increased tire wear, and once the rubber reaches the ideal operating temperature, the heat does not dissipate as quickly as it used to.

The aforementioned changes, along with tweaks to the traction control implementation, should be particularly noticeable in wet conditions.

To muddy the waters a bit, the BMW M4GT3 was also added to the PC platform with this physics change, however that model already exists for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, the conversion being handled by Untold Games.

Open Series Options

Currently, in the console version of Assetto Corsa Competizione, in Championship mode you can select a season, the length of the season, the weather, and then the general ability, penalties and tire options.

With this next update, the Open Series options will appear. This allows for more event setup freedom, such as being able to select the tracks in use and grouping cars for multi-class races, especially useful for upcoming DLC packs that include non-GT3 or GT4 vehicles.

DLC coming later

Paid downloadable content currently available on PC for Assetto Corsa Competition in the form of the Challengers Pack, which added five new cars, and the US Studs Pack (Circuit of the Americas, Watkins Glen International, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course) is also available to console drivers, but not yet. There is a release date.

However, 505 Games did offer an update. New content will only come once the team is satisfied with the new physics system on consoles. With that in mind, he’s aiming for a console release between November and the end of 2022.

Once enacted, the PC and console versions will be on a physical and content level, ahead of the GT World Challenger Series 2023 cars, equipment and liveries, and a GT2 Car Pack next year.
