About the role
Cranfield University’s Advanced Vehicle Engineering Center (AVEC) has built an enviable track record of focusing on engineering low-carbon vehicles for on-road and off-road vehicles. Since its inception in 2016, AVEC has grown year on year thanks to the exceptional dedication of its staff and its world-class experimental facilities, many of which are unique to Cranfield. The research and consultancy carried out by the Center is truly inspiring, carried out for public bodies and industrial clients around the world, including major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Tier 1 consultants and suppliers, Formula One racing teams 1, Formula 2, GT, WRC and Dakar.
This position represents a unique opportunity to join this dynamic team and help lead the development of automotive research and teaching within the Center. This role will support the continued development of the automotive master’s course and associated research activity with a particular focus on automotive engineering design principles, including overall vehicle system design, target setting, benchmarking and integration. system, including system-level optimization. In addition to developing research proposals in this area to support our commercial clients and public funding opportunities, the incumbent is expected to lead the MSc in Automotive Engineering as Course Director and develop the course to adopt the required new technologies and approaches. by sector. The incumbent of the post is also expected to contribute to the production of scholarly research and promotion of the Center.
About you
You will obtain a doctoral level education in Automotive Engineering or equivalent significant industry experience. With experience integrating automotive design, including major powertrain components, chassis, brakes, HVAC, etc., you’ll also need experience managing projects, bid writing, and newspaper article production.

The Advanced Vehicle Engineering Center (AVEC) is an agile and multidisciplinary center that provides services to the motorsports, automotive, aerospace, defense, agriculture and industrial vehicle sectors. The Center is renowned for its industry links, delivering a wide range of projects with variable timescales to its expanding client base. Closely coupled with this industry-focused research and development activity is a postgraduate education program incorporating five master’s degree courses, research degrees and an expanding portfolio of short courses. AVEC has grown year by year and is now entering its next development cycle. An integral part of this plan is the development of our automotive engineering teaching offer in our master’s programs and short courses.
