We are back once again with another review roundup and this time it is for NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa EditionComing to Switch next week.

This action RPG first debuted in 2017 on PS4 and Steam. This latest version of the action RPG gives players access to all previously released DLC, plus exclusive costumes for the Switch release. Here’s a bit more about it on the Nintendo website:

The critically acclaimed world of NieR:Automata invades Nintendo Switch! When mechanical lifeforms from another world attack without warning, unleashing a new kind of threat, humanity is driven from Earth and takes refuge on the Moon. As 2B, a member of the YoRHa android military force, plunge into a fierce battle to take back the planet.

And here’s what critics had to say about the Switch version:

GameSpot thought NieR had “enough on Switch” to make it worth checking out:

“Nier: Automata has enough on Switch that it’s definitely worth playing here. Combat still feels fluid, load times are reasonable, and in the several hours we tested, it was easy to forget it wasn’t running on a PlayStation or Xbox .”

pocket tactics gave the Switch version a 9 out of 10, noting that there were “little to no notable components”:

“Nier Automata is one of the best games from previous console generations, and it has made the leap to Nintendo Switch in a mind-bogglingly impressive way. Little to no notable commitments have been made to bring it to a handheld system, and the magical and thing’s inventiveness sings as loud as ever”.

Nintendo World Report gave the PlatinumGames title a perfect score of 10/10, mentioning that it is “one of the best third-party Switch ports yet”:

“This might be the best third-party Switch port I’ve ever played, which makes it incredibly easy to recommend this game to anyone who’s never played it before. There’s just no two ways about it – NieR Automata was a design triumph in 2017, and it’s a triumph to bring great games to Switch in 2022.”

games bible he also praised it, labeling it a “fantastic port of a phenomenal game”:

NieR: Automata on Switch it’s more than enough to finish endings A through E again if you’ve already done so, this time from the comfort of wherever you want. And for newcomers, this port is of such a high standard that it’s guaranteed you won’t walk away feeling like you’ve had an inferior experience compared to friends who played this wonderfully unique hack-and-slash-and-cry-a . -bit ’em up on other platforms. It’s a showcase of how the Switch really doesn’t need to be a ‘lesser’ system than its console-generation peers, when a port is in the right hands.”

Y God is a geek gave it a 9/10, summarizing it as “essential” and “still crazy” despite some hardware hiccups:

“I can’t tell you that it’s the best version, and I can’t tell you that you need to buy it again, although I’m sure Mr. Taro would love it. But I’m really glad I played it, as it’s a reminder that no matter the how old you are or how many games you play, there are special moments that will always stand out from the rest.

“NieR: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition is brilliant. It’s a little rougher than its big brother versions thanks to the hardware, but the heart and soul are there, the story and combat are excellent, and the idea of being able to go going to the bathroom while playing somehow feels like some kind of endgame meta for the title that even the biggest fans couldn’t have predicted. It’s still essential, it’s still crazy. Play this game.”
