Leyland’s Grade 11-listed Worden Hall reopens after £2.8m transformation into wedding venue, community and retail space with Folly Coffee House and Deli

The impressive Grade II listed building, the jewel in the crown of award-winning Worden Park, is now officially operational.

The renovated ballroom will house impressive event and wedding spaces, community use spaces, and a retail unit along with the existing Folly Coffee House and Deli.

South Ribble Council has committed to bringing the beloved building back to use in 2019, after more than seven years of underuse where the building fell into disrepair.

The redevelopment of the space saw the removal of the central conservatory to make way for a beautiful entrance area and patio, the replacement of damaged windows, and a reconfiguration of the ground floor rooms to allow for two new kitchen areas; one to serve the Folly Cafe and Deli in its new location as part of the Hall and one to serve the new multi-use event space in the iconic Barn.

The Barn is now available for small weddings and other events and has new skylights and lighting.

Meanwhile, the Courtyard Hall now connects to the former Derby Wing, the Barn, Folly Café, and retail space that was converted from the former stables.

The construction of a new two-story extension provides full accessibility to the first-floor facilities that include multi-use spaces for community, office, and educational use.

Councilor Paul Foster, Leader of the South Ribble Council, said, “This is a historic day for South Ribble. Everybody knows Worden Hall; it is such an iconic place in the district and generations of residents have a special connection with the building. Some have attended parties there, seen performances, participated in community activities there, or even gotten married there.

“People have grown up with the Hall as their backdrop and that’s why seeing the once incredible building fall into disrepair was something we couldn’t stand.

“Putting this iconic building back into the hands of the people of South Ribble is exactly what we wanted to do, and we have done it.

“Seeing the building like this, looking new and modern, but respectful of the rich history it contains, is a moment of great pride.”

Councilman Foster continued, “This is a new era for Worden Hall, and we hope everyone can see that we have done the iconic building justice. While it has been modernized to suit the needs of the new generation, the original elements have been preserved and traditional construction methods have been used to ensure that we were able to preserve its heritage.

“If you look closely at the grounds in front of the Hall, you can even see the preservation of the old brick outline of the original building.

“I want to thank everyone who has been involved in bringing the Hall back to use and of course our residents who were involved in our planning and told us exactly what they wanted to see in the new space. The building is yours and I sincerely hope you enjoy it!”
