MEST Training Program

MEST offers a 12-month postgraduate level training for aspiring entrepreneurs across the African continent.

The business training program in business, communications and software development includes extensive hands-on project work, culminating in a final launch and the opportunity to receive initial investment and grow the business.

The successful world-class training program is carried out with the help of an internationally recognized faculty. Our teaching fellows come from some of the best universities in the world. MEST also offers Entrepreneurs-in-Training (EITs) the opportunity to be mentored by real-life entrepreneurs, CEOs and other executives from around the world. Guest speakers have been executives from Uber, Facebook, Safaricom, Samsung, Interswitch and many more.

Since its inception in 2008, MEST has invested more than $25 million in training more than 1,000 individual entrepreneurs and has financed more than 80 software companies across Africa. MEST entrepreneurs have developed solutions that address local, regional, and global markets, received follow-up funding from global investors, and been onboarded with major accelerator programs such as Y Combinator, 500 Startups, and TechStars.

Candidate profile

  • A degree from one of the top universities or technical colleges or equivalent experience with at least two (2) years of corporate and startup experience (preferred)
  • In-depth skills in communications, business, or software development (from inception or acquired during the pre-learning stage)
  • Young people passionate about technology and entrepreneurship, and how to use technology to achieve business results
  • You must be ready to commit to a full year-long residential program.
  • Disciplined and motivated entrepreneur who can work and accomplish tasks and projects; prove it by completing the required pre-apprenticeship courses and MEST’s rigorous hiring process.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and strong desire to start a company.
  • Ability to communicate frankly and persuasively.
  • Ability to work well in a team, proven academic or professional excellence.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Safe and independent thinking.

Benefits

  • The MEST Training Program is a fully sponsored, full-time, intensive 12-month program in which the cohort, known as Entrepreneurs-in-Training (EIT), completes a postgraduate course in software development, business and communications, with a focus on practical implementation.
