The DOTS platform is now in six of the top fifteen academic synthetic biology pilot plants in the US.
BOHEMIA, NY and PITTSBURGH, PA / ACCESSWIRE / September 16, 2022 / Scientific Industries, Inc. (OTCQB:SCND), a provider of life sciences tools, today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Scientific Bioprocessing, Inc. (“SBI”) has entered into a research collaboration with Valerian Materials, the National Corn to Ethanol Research Center (NCERC), and the University of Minnesota (UMN), which will incorporate SBI’s innovative DOTS software platform to advance digitally simplified bioprocessing. SBI’s DOTS product combines a network of sensors and actuators with powerful software to monitor Critical Process Parameters (CPP) in real time and continuously.
The research project was one of nine projects announced yesterday by BioMADE (press release link here) at the Summit on the National Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative organized at the White House where the Biden Administration revealed the details of the President’s Executive Order and plans to invest more than $2 billion in the sector to accelerate “lab to factory”. The project will use SBI’s DOTS-enabled shake flasks to optimize the fermentation and downstream processing of beta-methylvalerolactone, eventually incorporating it into sustainable, bio-based elastomers, foams, and adhesives.
With the addition of NCERC and UMN, SBI’s DOTS platform products are now a key part of the workflow at six of the top fifteen academic synthetic biology pilot plants in the United States. The SBI team is eager to collaborate with these academic leaders, looking to further their expertise and gain benchmark testimonials on how using DOTS-enabled shake flasks can result in a solution that is economically viable and tangibly faster to scale to ten percent. of the capital and operating cost of legacy workflows with conventional bioreactors.
John Moore, President of Scientific Industries and SBI, said: “There is a major movement underway to decarbonise our economy and Scientific Bioprocessing is developing critical foundational tools on the DOTS platform to enable this new bioeconomy. We are very excited to be a part of this. important BioMADE project and collaborating with these highly respected new partners. The success and transparency of this project will be an important benchmark for other clients. DOTS is gaining awareness and traction in the marketplace.“
Launched in 2021, BioMADE is a US Department of Defense-sponsored manufacturing innovation institute. By supporting the development of biomanufacturing technologies, BioMADE and its network of more than 150 members in 29 states are strengthening American competitiveness, creating a more resilient supply chain and helping the US become more self-sufficient.
